Kinja'd!!!

That is how I spent an hour of my afternoon. On the right is my old school computer, a 2011 Macbook, which I bought from the school at the end of last year. On the left is my smaller, DVD drive-less, and completely awesome school-issued 2014 Macbook Air. I am thrilled with both. Also, I was surprised to find that, when I applied for a parking pass for the school lot, the only vehicle info you provide is the license plate. No make, model, type, VIN, registration, or even color. Just the plate number. Which sucks for me, because I have the normal plates for the next 2 weeks until my vanity plates get here, at which point my car will begin receiving tickets until I figure out how to change it. Also, I'm happy to see a large amount of legitimately cool cars in the student lot, including plenty of older metal. Sometimes, going to "Hollywood High" has its benefits.

On a funny note, I briefly talked to the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! at one of the Wednesday night car shows near my house. Unbeknownst to me at the time, I actually took a picture of his new car:

Just call up parking services and tell them your plates are changing.
Where I went to school, we were allowed to have a maximum of 3 vehicles assigned to our parking permits. Well, lucky me, by the time I graduated, there was any one of 5 cars I would take. After a disgruntled conversation with someone who didn't feel like helping me, I threw a fit, and they assigned 4 cars, because one of those 5 cars I only took once, and had no plans of bringing back onto campus.

It's really not so bad, just let them know in advanced, and they'll tell you what you'll need to do in order to make any changes to avoid problems.

What? They hand out MacBooks or whatever they are called? Does this raise your tuition?

Man, I feel old. When I was in high school only one person had a laptop.

You keeping the 2011 Mac for personal use? I'm still using my 2010 and it still works like the day I opened the box. I'm hoping to get a few more years out of it.

Yeah, I'm keeping it as my personal computer. So far, it still runs like a champ.

Fun fact- my 4 1/2 year old Mac has double the battery life of my brand new Dell work laptop.

Care to elaborate? I'm a teacher in one of the wealthier parts of Germany right now, yet we still don't hand out free laptops.

Lucky, my school doesn't give us anything. We have like one set of laptops that classes can rent but because they're kinda cheap they suck.

I love the Macbook Air, especially the latest generation ever since they switched to Haswell. My first MBA was a Core 2 Duo and was the last one with discrete graphics. I refused to buy a newer one until the graphics were at least near as good as the geforce in my first one. Haswell delivered the graphics as well as huge battery life improvement, which was already great to begin with, and faster SSD. They are the perfect student laptops. I just threw mine in a messenger bag with no power cord and was good to go all day. The enter sleep mode and wake faster than you can open the screen and while sleeping a fully charged battery will stay in standby for a month. You're gonna love it.

I don't know about that school, but the school I went to in population 400 in Alabama got them under a grant.

Not really sure. I'm a student in one of the wealthier parts of Nebraska, and they do. We only keep them until we finish school though. Then we either buy them (at a steep discount) or return them.

A lot of schools here in AMURRICA are issuing laptops to students now. Although they're more often Chromebooks than Macbooks, because of money.

Our schools still kinda suck though.

Fair warning: It might have great battery life when you first get it, but over time it'll just keep going down, and down, and down. I could go all school day without mine dying when I got it 2 years ago (good god it's already been that long) Now I'm charging it after every other class.

Other than that though, they're great little computers. I'm assuming yours is a 13 inch?

My HS issues the Galaxy Tab 1, which they paid $200(!) each for. That's chromebook money.

How do you like your air? It's time for me to get a new laptop. My parents are buying it for my birthday gift and right now it looks like I have the choice between a new (2015) Air 13 or a MacBook Pro 13 (2013) certified refurnished from Apple. I looked at both in the store today and the Air's screen seemed fuzzy when compared to my iPhone 6 and the retina pro. Do you get used to it? Is the difference that noticeable in day to day? Thanks!

I love my air, it works great and is much better than the 2011 Pro I traded it in on. Only complaint: There's no CD drive. But you get over that quick.
